HATE MAIL TORMENTS OF MURDER CASE MUM.

THE mother of murdered black teenager Stephen Lawrence fears for her safety - after falling victim to racist hate mail.

Doreen Lawrence has had to request police protection after receiving sick threats and racist abuse in the post.

Speaking at the National Assembly Against Racism conference, she defiantly told the 200-strong audience: 'I am trying to live in hope because without hope we have nothing.

'Most of the time I don't feel safe, but I will not fall into the trap of these people. It is important for me to be here. As black people, we are still on the outside looking in.

'That has not changed since the report came out.'

Stephen, an 18 year-old A level student, was stabbed to death while waiting for a bus in London, in April, 1993.

His killing became one of the most high-profile unsolved raciallymotivated murders in Britain and sparked an inquiry into why the case was not resolved.
