Byline: QUENTIN WILLSON

BIBLICAL floods aside, it's still summer, which means canny punters are still chasing trendy drop-tops that won't break the bank. Well, they need look no further than the evergreen MX-5, which has just scooped an award for the most reliable rag-top. Based on the cost of each repair against the number of visits to the garage, the Warranty Direct survey put Mazda's suburban trinket at the top of the pile with an average repair bill of pounds 255.59, well ahead of the Honda S2000, Peugeot 206CC and BMW Z3. The wooden spoon went to the Audi Cabriolet, whose bill came out at a whopping pounds 513.84 per visit.
