HARVARD MEDICAL SCHOOL FACULTY MEMBER JOINS SOMANETICS SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY BOARD

 TROY, Mich., Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Somanetics Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: SMTS) announced today that Harvard Medical School Faculty member and Massachusetts General Hospital Staff Anesthesiologist Gregory John Crosby, M.D., has joined the company's Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Crosby has been affiliated with Harvard and Massachusetts General since 1981. He is currently associate professor of Anaesthesia at Harvard and associate anesthetist at Massachusetts General Hospital.
 The Pennsylvania native holds a doctorate of medicine from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and a bachelor of arts from La Salle College, both in Philadelphia. Dr. Crosby also serves as an associate editor of Anesthesiology and is a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology.
 As a member of Somanetics' Scientific Advisory Board, Crosby joins a group of scientific consultants in addressing potential applications for INVOS and other technologies that will provide cost effective solutions to critical care physicians in the care and treatment of their patients. The Scientific Advisory Board also may be requested to review and evaluate the company's research programs, to advise the company with respect to technical matters in areas where Somanetics is involved and to recommend personnel.
 Somanetics develops, manufactures and globally markets medical diagnostic and monitoring equipment using In Vivo Optical Spectroscopy (INVOS(R)) technology. The company's INVOS 3100 Cerebral Oximeter is the first product of its kind to monitor, noninvasively, directly and continuously, the oxygen saturation of the blood in portions of an adult's brain.
 Somanetics Corporation is headquartered in Troy, and has 44 employees. The company's Common Shares and Class B Warrants are publicly traded on the NASDAQ National Market System under the symbols SMTS and SMTSZ, respectively.
