HARSCO CORPORATION RECORDS ADDITIONAL PROFIT ON TRUCK SALES
HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Malcolm W. Gambill, chairman and chief executive officer of Harsco Corporation (NYSE: HSC), announced today that the company's BMY Defense Group has reached final agreement with the U.S. government on the prices for all M939A2 five-ton truck orders for which prices were undefinitized, covering a total of 4,006 vehicles.
This quantity includes a new order for eighty-eight M939A2 five-ton trucks valued at approximately $9 million.
As previously reported, the company has been recording these sales on an estimated basis pending completion of negotiations. As a result of the final price agreement, Harsco will recognize increased income on these orders. Gambill stated that based upon the final agreement, the pre-tax income to be recorded in the third quarter on sales from these orders is expected to increase to approximately $12 million. Additionally, pre-tax income to be recorded on sales under this agreement after the third quarter is estimated to be in excess of $7 million, with approximately 60 percent of this expected during the fourth quarter of 1992. Gambill commented that the Defense Group's earnings for 1992 could exceed 1991's earnings. He also noted that the Division continues to aggressively seek additional business, and has proposals outstanding to foreign customers that could result in significant new orders.
