HARSCO CORPORATION AWARDED NEW ORDER FOR AMMUNITION VEHICLES

HARSCO CORPORATION AWARDED NEW ORDER FOR AMMUNITION VEHICLES
HARRISBURG, Pa., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Harsco Corporation (NYSE: HSC) announced today that the U.S. Army has exercised an option for the production of additional Field Artillery Ammunition Support Vehicles (FAASV) by BMY-Combat Systems Division (BMY-CSD), a member of the company's Defense Group.
Valued at approximately $42 million pending final price negotiation, the option represents the extension of a FAASV contract awarded the Harsco Division last fall to support both U.S. and Foreign Military Sales requirements. Deliveries are to begin in late 1993 and run until mid 1994.
Developed by BMY-CSD, the FAASV is a derivative of the M109 Self Propelled Howitzer which is also produced by the Division. The vehicle features an armor protected ammunition storage area and an onboard delivery capability to support artillery in combat. The FAASV's operational compatibility with self propelled as well as towed gun systems has helped to increase its adoption internationally. The vehicle was officially accepted into the U.S. Army inventory in 1984.
The FAASVs to be built under the option will be specially modified versions of the vehicle to complement the Army's M109A6 Paladin. Paladin is a modernization of the M109 SPH that combines advances in target acquisition, navigation, and survivability. The upgraded howitzer is now in production at BMY-CSD following an intensive five year development effort known as the Howitzer Improvement Program. The Harsco Division is responsible for all systems integration and production as the prime contractor on the Howitzer Improvement Program.
Harsco Corporation is a diversified, international, industrial company headquartered in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. The company's 11 divisions provide products and services for defense, industrial, commercial and construction applications from over 260 facilities in 36 states and 14 countries.
