HARSCO CORPORATION ANNOUNCES NEW BOARD MEMBER

 HARRISBURG, Pa., Jan. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Malcolm W. Gambill, chairman and chief executive officer, announced today that James E. Marley, chairman of the board of AMP Incorporated, has been elected to the board of directors of Harsco Corporation (NYSE: HSC).
 His election brings to 12 the number of directors currently serving on Harsco's board.
 Marley has a distinguished professional record that bridges engineering and industrial management. He joined AMP Incorporated in 1963 and rose through a succession of key management positions in the firm's manufacturing sector. In 1983, Marley was appointed corporate vice president, Operations and in 1986 he became the company's president. That same year he was elected to the board of directors. Marley assumed the position of president and chief operating officer in 1990. He was elected chairman of the board of AMP Incorporated, effective Jan. 1 of this year.
 Marley holds a B.S. in aero engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and an M.S. in mechanical engineering from Drexel Institute of Technology. His professional memberships include the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Locally, Marley has directorships in The Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, the Polyclinic Medical Center and the United Way of the Capital Region.
