HARSCO CORPORATION ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL FACILITY FOR BMY-COMBAT SYSTEMS DIVISION IN NORTH UNION TOWNSHIP, PA.
HARRISBURG, Pa., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Malcolm W. Gambill, chairman and chief executive officer of Harsco Corporation (NYSE: HSC), announced today that the company's BMY-Combat Systems Division plans to open a facility in North Union Township, Pa., located about 45 miles south of Pittsburgh, to expand the company's role in military vehicle maintenance and support activities. The announcement follows a contract awarded to the company's BMY-Combat Systems Division recently to retrofit and rebuild existing U.S. Army M109A2 self-propelled howitzers, valued at $1.68 million initially. Options for additional vehicles could extend the contract through late 1995. Harsco's BMY-Combat Systems Division has been the world's principal manufacturer of new M109 howitzers since 1974. To execute this new business opportunity, BMY has teamed with MIP Logistik Service (MIP-LOG) of Germany. MIP-LOG has been the Operating Contractor of the U.S. Government's Mainz Army Depot in Germany for more than 40 years. In this capacity, MIP-LOG has provided depot level support for all U.S. Army European-based wheeled and tracked vehicles. In making the announcement, Gambill commented "The new operation allows BMY-Combat Systems to reenter the expanding military retrofit and rebuild market in a core product area, without disrupting existing production programs and backlog." He continued, "I am especially proud that our decision will also help stimulate vital economic recovery in an area of our home state, that has been particularly hard-hit in recent years." The North Union Township location will be an operating unit reporting to the BMY-Combat Systems Division, located in York, Pa. Harsco Corporation is a diversified industrial manufacturing and service company headquartered in Camp Hill, Pa. Harsco's 11 divisions provide products and services for defense, industrial, commercial and construction applications from more than 150 major facilities in the United States and 28 foreign countries. /delval/ -0- 10/5/93 /CONTACT: Demaris K.
