 HARSCO ACQUIRES TAMPER RAIL MAINTENANCE BUSINESS
 HARRISBURG, Pa., June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Harsco Corporation


(NYSE: HSC) announced today it has acquired the Tamper business of Canron Inc., Toronto, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ivaco, Inc. based in Montreal, for $27 million in cash plus the assumption of certain liabilities for a total consideration of approximately $33 million.
 Headquartered in Columbia, S.C., Tamper manufactures various types of railway maintenance-of-way equipment for the domestic and international railroad industry with facilities in Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada and India as well as in the United States, and generated sales of approximately $50 million in 1991. Harsco said it intends to integrate Tamper's operations into its Fairmont Railway Motors Division which is based in Fairmont, Minn.
 Commenting on the acquisition, Harsco's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Malcolm W. Gambill observed, "The combined Fairmont/Tamper operation will be able to offer a wider range of products and services to its customers, while benefitting from an expanded international sales capability and enhanced operating efficiencies."
