HARRY QUITS; EXCLUSIVE Party prince tells pals he's finally given up smoking.

Byline: By MARTIN FRICKER

PRINCE Harry says he's stopped smoking - almost a year after he first vowed to kick the habit.

The hell-raising royal has told friends he has been smoke-free for several weeks - and his dad Charles is delighted.

Harry, 23, was 14 when he started smoking at Eton and continued his 20-a-day habit on his year-long Army training course at Sandhurst.

He said he was giving up at the beginning of the year, before the public ban came into force.

But he continued to puff away at his favourite Marlboro Lights.

Now after pleas from friends and family, his insists he has stubbed out his last cigarette.

One pal said: "It's still early days and he has failed before, but this time he's determined. He feels he is finally winning the battle."

Prince Charles - who nagged Camilla into giving up after seeing his aunt Princess Margaret smoke herself into an early grave - hated to see Harry with a cigarette in his hand.

A source said: "Harry used to feel really guilty. And Charles is so pleased that he seems serious about quitting for good this time."

Harry's last attempt in January ended after a few days. He even became one of the first people to break the public smoking ban, lighting up in a VIP area at Wembley Arena.

Now he's said to have conquered his addiction, Harry's next job will be to work on his South African girlfriend - Chelsy Davy, 22, who is known to be fond of a crafty drag.

But can he finally convince her - and himself - that the royal family is now a designated clean-heir zone?
