HARRISBURG WILL BE SITE OF NEW ALLEGHENY COMMUTER HEADQUARTERS
MIDDLETOWN, Pa., Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The Harrisburg International Airport has been selected as the site for the combined operations and executive headquarters of Allegheny Commuter Airlines, which will be formed by the May 1 merger of Pennsylvania Airlines of Harrisburg and Allegheny Commuter of Reading. Both are wholly-owned subsidiaries of USAir Group (NYSE: U).
"This was a difficult decision for us because both Harrisburg and Reading made very impressive appeals to be our headquarters location," said William C. Clark, who was recently named president and chief executive officer of the new Allegheny Commuter. Clark also currently serves as chairman, president and chief executive officer of Pennsylvania Airlines.
Clark said that: "An extensive cost study was done to evaluate the economic aspects of the site decision. Because of similarities in the companies and their facilities, the data showed the economic factors were very similar at both cities."
"With the economic factors being relatively equal, the deciding factor was the people aspect of our organization," said Clark. "We will have to relocate fewer headquarters employees by selecting the Harrisburg location," Clark said. The total number of employees at Harrisburg is 169 and there are 155 at Reading.
Clark emphasized that he believes all current employees will be offered a job with the new company, if they are willing to relocate or, in some cases, fulfill a different job function.
"This decision will have no impact on flight operations at either Reading or Harrisburg," Clark said. "Allegheny Commuter plans to expand its USAir Express service as we grow the consolidated airline. We look forward to a continued mutually beneficial relationship with all of the communities that we serve."
