HARRIS MATCHES PREVIOUS YEAR'S TOTAL ANALOG AND MIXED-SIGNAL ASIC DESIGN WINS SIX MONTHS INTO PRESENT FISCAL YEAR

MELBOURNE, Fla., March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Only six months into its 1993 fiscal year (FY), Harris Semiconductor has exceeded its total number of FY 92 design wins for analog and mixed-signal ASIC. Harris had 30 ASIC design wins for all of FY 92, which concluded June 30, 1992 compared to 36 design wins in only the first six months of FY 1993 (July 1 to Dec. 31, 1992).
"Matching last year's total design wins in only six months lends dramatic support to our long-held contention that a substantial market exists for user-designed high-performance bipolar analog ASIC as well as BiCMOS mixed-signal ASIC, optimized for analog performance," said Richard Jenkins, vice president of Harris' analog and mixed signal ASIC operations.
Harris views mixed-signal ASIC optimized for analog performance as typically less than 5,000 CMOS logic gates but with precision and high- speed analog performance (offset voltages as low as 50 microvolts and bandwidths up to the several hundreds megahertz range).
Jenkins attributed the high growth to Harris' combination of multiple libraries and performance technologies in a single design environment, the Analog Fastrack CAD system. "First-pass silicon of our last 25 user-designed circuits worked in the target systems. This demonstrates that experienced board-level analog system designers can design working ASICs without multiple iterations," said Jenkins.
Harris' analog/mixed signal ASIC customers include aircraft controls, medical equipment, network interface devices, and mass storage circuits.
Jenkins added that there are presently more than 150 Analog Fastrack design seats in use at customer sites. Fastrack, which won EDN magazine's 1990 Innovation of the Year Award, also served as the basis for the Cadence Analog Artist. Fastrack includes an extensive suite of analysis tools, including performance versus yield trade-offs for preliminary cost evaluation. The company guarantees performance to match circuit simulations.
Harris offers 12 libraries on several technologies for analog and mixed-signal ASIC. These include complementary bipolar dielectric isolation, bonded wafer complementary bipolar and several BiCMOS technologies optimized for analog performance with complementary bipolar structures. Design styles include device-level, tile arrays and cell- based.
Harris Corporation's Semiconductor Sector manufactures discrete semiconductors and integrated circuits for analog and digital signal processing and power applications. It is the number one supplier to the military and aerospace market and the seventh largest U.S. merchant semiconductor manufacturer. Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), with worldwide sales of more than $3 billion, is focused on four major businesses: electronic systems, semiconductors, communications and office equipment.
