HARRIS INTRODUCES NEW LINE OF COMPUTERS
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Harris

Corporation's (NYSE: HRS) Computer Systems Division today announced a powerful new generation of real-time computers -- the first such systems to incorporate the Motorola 88110 RISC microprocessors.
Harris has announced the Night Hawk 5000 series -- computers that for the first time combine the higher performance of the 88110 microprocessors with an open architecture and real-time UNIX operating system to provide the real-time performance and predictability needed for a variety of commercial and military applications.
The new series will be available in a wide range of configurations and packages, including rack mount, pedestal and cabinet. Capable of supporting from 1 to 8 microprocessors, Night Hawk 5000 computers can process information from 100 to 800 MIPS -- up to five times faster than previous Night Hawk models. The Night Hawk 5000 series offers the fastest open RSIC-based multiprocessing computing in the market. The Night Hawk 5800, the first member of the series, will be available by the end of 1992.
"The Night Hawk 5000 series builds on the highly successful Night Hawk family of real-time computers," said Corky Siegel, vice president and general manager of Harris Computer Systems Division. "The new systems are fully compatible with earlier generations, protecting our current customers' investments in applications software, peripheral devices and packaging."
Harris customers can easily upgrade their current models to the faster new systems by simply exchanging boards. In addition, Night Hawk's standards-based, open systems design allows easy migration from older proprietary architectures.
Based on open systems architecture, industry standards and RISC technology, Harris' Night Hawk computers are real-time multiprocessing systems. They support compatible real-time and multi-level secure UNIX operating systems that comply with POSIX, SVID and 88open standards.
Harris Computer Systems Division produces real-time computing systems and software for simulation, data acquisition, and secure computing applications. The division is part of Harris' Electronic Systems Sector.
Harris Corporation, with annual worldwide sales of more than $3 billion, is focused on four major businesses: electronic systems, semiconductors, communications, and Lanier Worldwide office equipment.
