HARRAH'S SIGNS AGREEMENTS WITH AK-CHIN INDIAN COMMUNITY FOR CASINO NEAR PHOENIX

 MEMPHIS, Tenn., Aug. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Harrah's, the casino entertainment division of The Promus Companies (NYSE: PRI), today announced that it has signed definitive management and development agreements with the Ak-Chin Indian Community for a planned $24.7 million casino entertainment facility on the Community's land approximately 25 miles south of Phoenix. In addition, the Ak-Chin Community announced that it has received approval from the U.S. Department of Interior of its Tribal/State Compact with the State of Arizona.
 The planned 72,000 square-foot facility for the Ak-Chin Community will feature 29,500 square-feet of gaming space with 475 slot machines, 40 Class II gaming tables -- including poker and poker-type games, bingo, keno and a simulcast/off-track betting operation. Non-gaming facilities will include three food/beverage outlets as well as space f meetings and retail shops.
 Construction will begin upon receipt of approval by the National Indian Gaming Commission of the management, develo agreements. Opening of the project is subject to various regulatory approvals.
 Promus will guarantee bank financing of 100 percent of the project cost with Sodak Gaming Inc. providing a guarantee to Promus for one-half of this financing.
