HARPOON VICE PRESIDENT NAMED AT MCDONNELL DOUGLAS

 ST. LOUIS, Jan. 7, 1993 -- Gerald E. (Jerry) Daniels has been promoted to vice president and general manager of the Harpoon/Standoff Land Attack Missile (SLAM) program at McDonnell Douglas Aerospace.
 In this position, Daniels is responsible for the supervision of the Harpoon anti-ship missile program and SLAM, the land-attack variant of the Harpoon.
 Daniels is also responsible for new business opportunities based on Harpoon and SLAM technologies and applications. These new business activities include McDonnell Douglas (NYSE: MD) efforts on the United Kingdom's Conventionally Armed Standoff Missile (CASOM).
 The Harpoon/SLAM program employs approximately 1,000 people at its manufacturing, depot and program management facility in St. Charles, Mo., near St. Louis.
 Daniels had been the senior director of the SLAM program since 1990. From 1987 to 1990, Daniels was the McDonnell Douglas program manager for the NATO Anti-Air Warfare System (NAAWS) program.
 From 1981 to 1987, he managed several submarine-launched Harpoon programs for international customers. Daniels took over management of all submarine-launched Harpoon activity in 1985.
 Daniels joined McDonnell Douglas in 1979, when he began engineering assignments on advanced missile programs.
 Prior to joining McDonnell Douglas, Daniels served in the U.S. Navy Submarine Force from 1967 to 1979, and he is currently a captain in the U.S. Navy reserves.
 Daniels holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics and Russian from the U.S. Naval Academy and a master's degree in international relations from the University of Southern California. In addition, he was an Olmstead Scholar studying international relations at the University of Munich from 1973 to 1975.
 McDonnell Douglas has produced Harpoon missiles since 1975 and has delivered more than 6,000 Harpoons to the U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard and 20 international customers. McDonnell Douglas has been delivering SLAMs to the U.S. Navy since 1988.
