HARPERCOLLINS RELEASES 'VENDETTA' FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION
NEW YORK, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- HarperCollins Publishers announced today that it has shipped all retail and wholesale account orders for "Vendetta," the much anticipated book on American Express, to go on sale today. The book which has been held under tight security measures, was released with a first printing of 200,000 copies.
"VENDETTA: American Express and the Smearing of Edmond Safra" was originally scheduled for a June 17 publication date but in response to recently heightened media attention to American Express and the upcoming book, the publisher moved to an earlier production and publication schedule. William M. Shinker, group vice president and publisher of the Adult Trade Group said, "Just as 'Barbarians At The Gate' was the business book that defined the 1980s, readers will surely find that 'Vendetta' is the first book to characterize what is the major issue of the 90s: ethics in business. And like 'Barbarians,' this book delivers. Bryan Burrough's fans will not be disappointed."
"Vendetta" grew out of a September 1990 article by Bryan Burrough which had been described as the longest news article ever to appear in the Wall Street Journal. The book further describes the tactics used to destroy the reputation of Swiss Banker Edmond Safra, a competitor of American Express in international banking, the result of which was a settlement where American Express agreed to pay $8 million to charities selected by Safra.
Bryan Burrough is the best-selling co-author of "Barbarians at the Gate" and is a reporter for the Wall Street Journal.
