HARPER GROUP FINISHES FIRST FOR U.S. OLYMPIC COMMITTEE BUSINESS; OPENS EL PASO OFFICE

 SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Olympic Committee has appointed the Harper Group Inc. (NASDAQ: HARG) as its official freight forwarder for the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. Harper will move all uniforms and equipment for the athletes, as well as the promotional booth and materials for use at the Olympic Village hospitality suite during the February games.
 An expert in events logistics, Harper and its agents have handled special projects such as food fairs, art exhibits, trade shows and other large-scale events, including the Olympic Winterland, a cultural exchange between Olympic host cities Atlanta and Lillehammer, and the Winterland: Norwegian Visions of Winter exhibit, which included $40 million worth of artwork. Grieg Air, Harper's agent in Bergen and Oslo, is the official freight forwarder for the Lillehammer Olympic Committee.
 In other news, Harper opened its newest branch in El Paso, Texas recently. Paul Rainwater, general manager of the facility, is excited about the opportunity to work within the El Paso/Juarez/Chihuahua manufacturing area. "This is the fastest-growing manufacturing and distribution area in the Southwest. We expect the tremendous growth in El Paso to continue, expanding the need for third party logistics." Rainwater is a licensed broker with 13 years of experience in the freight forwarding industry.
 The new 12,000 square foot facility is located in the Butterfield Industrial Park next to the El Paso Airport. The location combines El Paso's excellent inland transportation network and Harper's worldwide network of offices in 44 countries to efficiently meet the transportation needs of the business community.
