HARMAN INTERNATIONAL TO ACQUIRE MINORITY INTEREST IN MADRIGAL AUDIO

 WASHINGTON, Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Harman International Industries, Incorporated (NYSE: HAR), announced the signing of an agreement in principal under which Harman will acquire a minority interest in Madrigal Audio Laboratories, the maker of Mark Levinson and Proceed high-fidelity product lines. Harman did not specify the percentage of or the cost for the equity interest, but did state that it will hold an option to purchase the remaining equity of Madrigal. Closing has been set for Oct. 15, 1993.
 Commenting on Madrigal, Dr. Sidney Harman, chairman and chief executive officer, stated: "We are very pleased to take this equity position in Mark Levinson and Proceed through our investment in Madrigal. The investment will be made directly in the company, which we regard as the primary high-end firm in the business. This transaction is part of Harman International's program to concentrate major attention in the critical high-end area of the high-fidelity industry."
