HARLEYS HEAD OUT ON THE HIGHWAY; THOUSANDS OF MOTORCYCLISTS TAKE TO THE ROAD TO RAISE MONEY FOR MDA

MILWAUKEE, June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Perhaps at one time all roads led to Rome, but this week all roads will lead to the mecca of American motorcycling: Milwaukee. Thousands of Harley-Davidson enthusiasts will hit North American highways to celebrate the company's 90th birthday and raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).
To commemorate its 90th anniversary, Harley-Davidson is inviting friends and families from around the world to participate in the The Reunion Ride for MDA -- 10 cross-continent rides leading to a Reunion celebration in Harley-Davidson's hometown, Milwaukee.
The 10 rides, spanning 16,257 miles, will depart June 4-8 from Los Angeles; San Francisco; Montreal; Washington, D.C.; Orlando, Fla.; Augusta, Maine; Kittyhawk, N.C.; San Antonio, Texas; Vancouver, British Columbia; and Edmonton, Alberta.
Proceeds from a $25 entry fee and pledges for the amount of miles participants travel during the ride will be donated to MDA. Each night, Harley-Davidson executives hosting the rides will stop to welcome new riders, friends and supporters at "Oasis Nightcaps." Activities include presentations, food, entertainment and additional fund-raisers for local MDA offices.
More than 60,000 Harley enthusiasts are expected to arrive in Milwaukee on June 12 for the day-long Reunion celebration. Held at Milwaukee's Henry W. Maier Festival Park, the celebration will feature a variety of activities, with top-name entertainment, food and motorcycle displays including custom, limited-edition 90th anniversary Harley- Davidsons and numerous antiques. In addition, Jay Leno, host of NBC's "Tonight Show" and long-time motorcycle enthusiast, will host a special 90th birthday ceremony on stage prior to a performance by ZZ Top.
"We hope that everyone, regardless of what brand motorcycle they ride, or if they ride at all, will join us in this event to celebrate our 90 years as a family and to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association," said Richard F. Teerlink, president and chief executive officer of Harley-Davidson, Inc.
Harley-Davidson is in its 13th year as a corporate sponsor for MDA. To date, it has generated nearly $13 million for MDA through dealer- sponsored fund-raising events and corporate activities.
Harley-Davidson, Inc., the only major American-based motorcycle manufacturer, produces heavyweight motorcycles and a complete line of motorcycle parts and accessories. Its Holiday Rambler subsidiary is a leading manufacturer of premium motorhomes, specialized commercial vehicles and a diverse range of related products.
