HARISTON CORP. ANNOUNCES NEW DEVELOPMENT

VANCOUVER, Dec. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Following months of research and testing, Metanetix Corp., a 75-percent-owned subsidiary of Hariston Corp., announces that it has developed, at its Research & Development facilities, a revolutionary yet simple, cost-effective technology to selectively remove Arsenic from mining water effluents and metal processing streams. This breakthrough has universal and immediate application, and has the potential to clean up and remediate one of the world's major environmental contamination problems. Patent applications have been filed.
This innovative technology is a material step forward in tomorrow's new era of mining. The majority of mine operations in the world report some form of arsenic-related contamination which can be eliminated by utilizing the new Metanetix technology. Also, the technology immediately enhances and makes available precious and base metal ore reserves that have become uneconomical to mine and process because of the high levels of naturally occurring or introduced arsenic and its resulting environmental clean up liabilities. Metanetix intends to manufacture and aggressively market arsenic modules to the mining industry for use in both environmental and commercial applications.
The Kelley mine in Butte, Mont., site of Metanetix' mineral extraction joint venture with Western & Pacific Resources Corp., contains an estimated 3.9 billion gallons of metal-laden acid mine water and is connected to the adjacent Berkeley Pit which contains an estimated 2.5 billion gallons of metal-laden acid mine water. The Kelley mine is filling in at a rate of 3,800 gallons per minute and contains 18 parts per million of arsenic. Arsenic normally attaches to the iron product stream in the metals separation process. However, with the new arsenic recovery module, arsenic is selectively removed from the acid mine water in the first in a series of modules designed and constructed, and operating for the separation and recovery of the various metals contained in the water.
Arsenic is not only removed from the waters, but is concentrated, purified, and recovered for use in the production of special arsenic products to be marketed through Metanetix' marketing division. This breakthrough also allows Metanetix Corp. to produce high purity water treatment modules as well as pharmaceutical and food grade products.
The joint venture production facility is now operating and is recovering Aluminum, Zinc, Iron and Arsenic for commercial production of specialty chemical products exceeding standards set by the market place.
Metanetix holds the exclusive global license to the metal extraction technology, as well as applications of the technology to selectively remove hazardous heavy metals in harbor and lake sediments, as well as industrial waste metal sludge, sewage sludge, furnace and fly ash.
