HARD ROCK CAFE'S PETER MORTON ANNOUNCES PLAN TO OPEN HARD ROCK HOTEL AND CASINO IN LAS VEGAS

LAS VEGAS, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Peter A. Morton, founder and chairman of the Hard Rock Cafe, and Tom Yturbide, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Harvey's Hotel & Casino of Lake Tahoe, Nev., announced today that they have formed a corporation to open a 325-room Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
The 12-story hotel and casino, located next door to the Las Vegas Hard Rock Cafe, will house a 28,000-square-foot casino. Like Hard Rock Cafe's, the gaming complex will feature entertainment memorabilia, including those of rock music and movie legends -- past and present. The unique resort will host guitar-shaped roulette tables, gaming chips imprinted with the Hard Rock logo, live concerts and the world's largest guitar extending through the roof. In addition, the hotel/casino will feature the first Hard Rock Beach Club, and its own interactive television network.
Construction on the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is expected to begin later this year, with a December 1994 opening scheduled. Financing on the $80 million project has been secured. Harvey's, which has owned and operated the 700-room hotel and casino at Lake Tahoe, since 1944, will manage the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to put everything great and exciting about rock and roll and the entertainment business under one roof," explained Mr. Morton. "For the first time, visitors to Vegas will have the change to stay in a hotel with real energy and excitement. I'm looking forward to working with Harvey's of Lake Tahoe. With 70 successful years in the hotel and gaming business, Harvey's will contribute the experience and talent we need to ensure that the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino meets the high standards of the Hard Rock restaurants."
Harvey's Tom Yturbide adds, "We've been wanting to enter the Las Vegas market and having the chance to work with an entrepreneur like Peter Morton and his Hard Rock staff provides us with the perfect opportunity."
Peter A. Morton founded the first Hard Rock Cafe in London in 1971. Today, he is chairman and president of Hard Rock America, Inc., which is located in Los Angeles, and which owns and operates Hard Rock Cafe's in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Newport Beach, Chicago, Houston, New Orleans, Honolulu, Maui, San Diego, Las Vegas, Sydney, Australia, and as of June 1993 Tel Aviv, Israel.
Mr. Morton also owns and operates other restaurants, including Morton's in Los Angeles.
