HAPPY NATIONAL DAY BAHRAIN!
Summary: Bahrain National Day is one of the most widely celebrated events in Bahrain with fireworks, operettas, folk dances, and an aerobatics air show!
Bahrain National Day is almost a month-long celebration of freedom for this intensely patriotic island nation.
Brief History
Bahrain is the first site of the ancient Dilmun civilization. Then came the conversion to Islam and a period of Arab rule in the 600's AD. In 1521 Bahrain came under Portuguese rule, followed by a period under Persian rule in 1602, and the Bani Utbah clan in 1783. During the 1800's the British steadily gained influence in Bahrain.
After a United Nations survey of the Bahraini population and the withdrawal of British troops that had been stationed in the island; Bahrain independence was announced on the 15th of August, 1971. However, National Day is celebrated on the 16th of December because this was the date when the first Bahraini king was coronated.
Widespread Celebrations
December is an exciting month for the whole island as a wide spread array of events are prepared every year including fireworks, folk dancing and singing, carnivals, "air parades", heritage shows, and numerous speeches detailing the accomplishments of Bahrain and its citizens.
Residents and visitors can also expect concerts, festivals, food trucks, family events, water sports shows, and even medical missions and campaigns. The whole island will also be bedecked in Bahrain's national colors, from the lights to the landscape.
