HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE KING! ELVIS PRESLEY 'COMMEMORATIVE COLLECTION' AVAILABLE AT RETAILERS NATIONWIDE BEGINNING JAN. 8

MEMPHIS, Tenn., Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The Sun Never Sets on a Legend. And the Elvis Presley legend continues as limited edition Elvis Presley "Commemorative Collection" figures are made available nationwide by Hasbro on what would have been the 59th birthday of the King of Rock 'n Roll.
Three Elvis figurines will be available at retail outlets beginning Jan. 8. Each portrayal of Elvis is individually numbered and accompanied by a signed and numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
"So many fans pay special tribute to Elvis on his birthday -- we thought January 8 was an opportune time to make the Commemorative Collection available," said Larry Bernstein, president, Hasbro Toy Division. "This is our way of honoring Elvis and allowing his fans to take home an authentically detailed replica of the King," Bernstein added.
The 12-inch, exquisitely crafted figures will retail for approximately $50 each, and portray Elvis at three pivotal moments of his monumental career:
-- "Teen Idol" Elvis represents the young Elvis who exploded onto
the music scene in the mid-'50s. His clothes are from Beale
Street; his striking looks and revolutionary persona set him
apart from the rest of the music scene.
-- "Jailhouse Rock 45 RPM" is Elvis circa 1957, in the outfit from
the publicity shot for the "Jailhouse Rock" single: an ultra-
cool red jacket, white shirt, black pants and hip white shoes.
A beautifully detailed guitar completes the look.
-- "'68 Special" requires no introduction. It is Elvis in the
famous black leather outfit from his legendary television
special. The extraordinary detail includes jeweled rings,
watch and wristband fit for a King!
On Jan. 7, 1,000 figures from the Commemorative Collection will be available for purchase by fans at Graceland. The figures will be sold at Graceland Gift Shops from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
In homage to the best-selling recording artist of all time, Hasbro is a sponsor of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra's "Elvis' Birthday Concert" to be held in the Dixon Myers Hall of Cook Convention Center Jan. 8 at 8 p.m. The program will include original arrangements from Elvis' concert tours in the '70s. Excerpts of one of the King's most exciting performances will be shown on a large screen video providing the lead vocal for the performers of "An American Trilogy."
The second half of Hasbro's Elvis Presley Commemorative Collection -- Gold Suit, Aloha From Hawaii and Military -- will be available in August 1994.
The Commemorative Collection of special edition Elvis figures is produced by Hasbro under an exclusive licensing agreement with Elvis Presley Enterprises (EPE).
Hasbro, Inc., is headquartered in Pawtucket, R.I., and is the world's largest manufacturer and marketer of toys, games, puzzles and infant care products.
