HANSON NAMES BONHAM CEO; LANDUYT FINANCE DIRECTOR
LONDON, April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Lord Hanson, chairman of Hanson PLC

(NYSE-HAN), announced today that Derek C. Bonham has been promoted to the newly-created post of chief executive officer of Hanson PLC. William M. Landuyt, chief financial officer of Hanson Industries, has been appointed finance director and CFO of Hanson PLC. Anthony Alexander remains chief operating officer (UK) with Anthony Cotton as his deputy.
Lord Hanson stated, "Derek Bonham's promotion to this important new position gives us all great pleasure. He has been finance director since 1981 and for over twenty years has played a pivotal role within Hanson PLC. His intelligence, creativity and energy have played an essential part in the growth and success of this company. We shall continue to profit from his talents and leadership qualities for many years to come."
Lord White, chairman of Hanson Industries, said, "I welcome Derek Bonham's appointment and I am particularly pleased that Bill Landuyt, one of our senior U.S. executives, has been selected for the role of CFO of Hanson PLC. This will further enhance our close working relationship between the UK and the US. Everyone in the company will share my pleasure that these vital posts have been filled from within Hanson."
Sir Christopher Harding, non-executive chairman of the Compensation Committee, said, "These moves have been planned for some time and have the full approval of the board including, of course, the non-executive directors. This appointment of a CEO identifies a separate role within the company which is additional to that of the executive chairman. A decision regarding the appointment of Lord Hanson's successor as chairman will be made by the board nearer the time of his retirement in 1997."
Bonham, age 48, joined Hanson in 1971 as deputy financial comptroller. He became financial comptroller in 1973, an associate director in 1976 and joined the board of Hanson PLC in 1981. He is a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council (USA) and has served on the Accounting Standards Committee (UK).
Landuyt, 36, a CPA, joined Hanson Industries in 1983 from Price Waterhouse. He was appointed a vice president and chief financial officer of Hanson Industries in 1987 and became associate director of Hanson PLC in 1990. On taking up his new post shortly he will join the board of Hanson PLC and will reside in London with his family.
