HANSON'S NEW ASSOCIATE DIRECTORS

 NEW YORK, May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Lord Hanson, chairman, and Derek Bonham, chief executive of Hanson PLC (NYSE: HAN), today announced the appointment of four new associate directors, three from the United States: Mark Alexander, John Oldford and Dorothy Sander, and Ian Menzies-Gow from the United Kingdom.
 Bonham, commenting on the appointments, said: "We are delighted to welcome these managers from both sides of the Atlantic as associate directors. They are all making valuable contributions to the progress of Hanson PLC."
 Biographies
 -- Mark A. Alexander, age 34, vice president of corporate development, Hanson Industries. Joined in 1984 as assistant corporate controller. Previous positions, director of mergers and acquisitions 1987, vice president of acquisitions 1990. Appointed to his present position in 1992.
 -- John Oldford, age 50, group vice president responsible for the mining, chemicals and automotive groups of Hanson Industries. Joined in 1984 through the US Industries Inc. acquisition, as vice president of Huron Inc. Previous positions, president of Leon Plastics 1987, chairman of Garden State Tanning 1992. Appointed to his present position 1992.
 -- Dorothy E. Sander, age 39, vice president of administration and benefits, Hanson Industries. Joined in 1984 through the US Industries Inc. acquisition. Previous position, director of benefits. Appointed to present position in 1991.
 -- Ian Menzies-Gow, age 50, executive chairman of Hanson Building Division, which includes Beazer Homes, Butterley Brick and London Brick. Joined in 1986 through the Imperial Group acquisition. Previous positions, chief executive of SLD/Barbour Campbell Division 1987, chief executive of Hanson Amalgamated Industries 1988, chief executive of ARC 1989. Appointed to his present position in 1993.
 Hanson PLC is a British-American industrial management corporation. In the United States, Hanson Industries' operations include Peabody Coal, SCM Chemicals, Cavenham Forest Industries, Beazer, Grove Crane, Jacuzzi Whirlpool Baths, Tommy Armour Golf, Ames Tools, Farberware Cookware and Hanson Lighting Group, among others.
 In the United Kingdom, Hanson's holdings include Imperial Tobacco, ARC Aggregates, London Brick, Butterley Brick, Beazer Homes and Smith Meters.
