HANSEN NATURAL CORP. (HANS) REPORTS NET OF $185,443 FOR THIRD QUARTER

BREA, Calif., Nov. 17 ~PRNewswire~ -- Hansen Natural Corp. (NASDAQ: HANS) today reported consolidated net income of $185,443 for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, 1992. Consolidated net revenues totaled $4,240,996.
Hansen Natural Corp. markets and distributes Hansen's(R) Natural Sodas and Hansen's(R) Natural Old Fashioned Apple Juice and Apple Cider. The results include only two months of the operations of the Hansen business, which was acquired on July 27, 1992.
Rodney C. Sacks, chairman and chief executive officer, noted that the positive results were achieved after absorbing a provision of $88,378 for amortization of the company's trademark license and disproportionately high advertising expenditures of approximately $350,000 incurred in August and September. Such advertising had been planned to commence earlier in the summer but had been deferred until the Hansen transaction was consummated. Hansen management decided to launch the campaign immediately after the closing of the transaction to maintain and promote brand awareness of for Hansen's Natural Sodas. Normally such advertising costs would have been incurred over a greater number of months.
In the third quarter of 1991, prior to the acquisition, the company had no revenues from operations, and its consolidated net income for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 1991, was $1,328. Consolidated net revenues for the period were $100,423. These revenues were derived principally from interest income.
For the nine-month period ended Sept. 30, 1992, the company had a consolidated net loss of $9,780, and consolidated net revenues of $4,358,375, compared with consolidated net income of $24,060 and consolidated net revenues of $334,268 in the corresponding (pre- acquisition) period of 1991.
Earnings calculated before amortization of the company's trademark license (which is a non-cash item), without adjustment for income tax, totaled $273,821 for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 1992, and $78,598 for the nine-month period ended on that date.
On a per-share basis, the company earned $.022 for the three- month period ended Sept. 30, 1992, and lost $.0012 for the nine months ended on that date, based on a weighted average number of share outstanding for these periods of 8,305,834 and 7,729,084 shares, respectively.
These results compare with consolidated net income per share of $.0002 and $.0033 for the three- and nine-month periods ended Sept. 30, 1991 based on a weighted average number of shares outstanding of 7,211,690 shares for both periods.
The company's unaudited pro forma results for the nine-month periods ended Sept. 30, 1992 and 1991, which include certain line items reported in the company's Form 10-QSB, are set forth below. These results assume the acquisition had occurred at the beginning of the respective periods, and have been prepared for comparative purposes only. They do not purport to be indicative of the results which would have occurred had the acquisition actually been made as of those dates, nor of future results.
