Gulf Coast Educators Insurance Applauds Florida Legislature for Hurricane Supply Tax Holiday Proposal Movement.

Naples, FL, April 23, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Governor Rick Scott recently announced a proposal for a 15-day sales tax holiday on hurricane preparedness supplies, which will help save taxpayers millions of dollars. While the Senate committee has approved this tax break, it is currently waiting on approval by the state Legislature.

“Gulf Coast Educators Insurance supports Governor Rick Scott in his efforts to create a 2014 Hurricane Supply Tax Holiday, as a measure to help save taxpayers money and also because it will help homeowners to be properly equipped when hurricane season begins on June 1,” says Ron DeFreitas, owner/operator of Gulf Coast Educators Insurance.

The hurricane supply tax holiday is proposed to last for up to 15 days, and will include items like:

-Flashlight or other portable light source that sells for $20 or less.

-Portable radios costing $50 or less.

-Tarpaulins or waterproof sheets selling for $50 or less.

-First-aid kits costing $30 or less.

-Ground anchors or tie-down kids selling for $50 or less.

-Fuel tanks that cost $25 or less.

-Many common types of batteries, excluding car and boat batteries, that sell for $30 or less.

-Non-electric coolers that cost $30 or less.

-Portable generators priced at $750 or below.

“Florida has not been directly affected by a major hurricane since 2005, so this proposal is a great incentive for Florida residents who may have become complacent to stock up on hurricane supplies,” adds DeFreitas.

While it is important for homeowners to own the items included in the hurricane supply tax holiday proposal, Gulf Coast Educators Insurance also recommends that homeowners have a three days worth of supplies of items such as fuel, food, water, and medicine on hand as well.
