These studies, carried out at the end of 2017, have been carried out by the oceanographic vessel ITAF DEME, from the Oceanographic Research Center of Dakar-Thiaroye (CRODT), and with the technical support of scientists from the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO) . Among other objectives pursued by this project, financed by the Equatoguinean Government, it is planned to create a database and provide scientific information on the fishery resources of the exclusive economic zone of Equatorial Guinea, covering 130,000 km, in order to allow sustainable use, while promoting the development of fishing activities. Therefore, it is intended to ensure the supply of local markets with quality products, reduce their dependence and contribute to the food security of the population.

"We prioritize the vision of the Head of State and Government, HE Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, in converting the fishing sector as one of the main sectors of the national economy, Since the implementation of this new project would allow fishing potential in the waters jurisdictional, cover the existing production deficit and lower the price of the kilo and export the surplus, " stressed Olman Serrano in his speech. "With these positive results, the Government of Equatorial Guinea must study and adopt a management plan for the exploitation of these resources, so that they can be used sustainably and durably for this and future generations and generate income for the State," added the representative of FAO. Likewise, Minister Don Malavo has congratulated in advance the praiseworthy work done by the United Nations System in the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, and has hoped that these relations will continue to be strengthened more and more.
