The author explores the myriad of cultures that make up Trinidad, cultures that mainly originated in West and West-Central Africa and migrated with slaves during the 1800's. Chapter titles include, Clues from Oral History, Elders and Ancestors: Links of Blood and Culture, Stickfight and Kambule, Yoruba Religion in Trinidad: Transfer and Reinterpretation, and African Feasts in Trinidad. Of special note are the interviews conducted by the author of Trinidad elders about their traditions. There are pronunciation guides throughout the text, as well as photographs.
