Byline: Christopher McKeon

Roadworks are set to disrupt traffic at the Stoke Road crossroads inGuildfordfor more than three months from July 30.

The work is part of a joint scheme betweenSurrey County CouncilandGuildford Borough Councilto provide new and improved pedestrian and cyclist crossing points at the junction.

Most of the work will take place between 8pm and 6am to minimise disruption and different parts of the crossroads will be closed for different periods between July 30 and November 12.

Diversions will be in place while lanes are closed.

The county council's website says: "There is no easy way to cross Stoke Crossroads for pedestrians and cyclists.

"The junction gets very busy and can get congested. Some cyclists prefer to cross the road instead of using the existing footbridge.

"This scheme has been modelled and tested for suitability and the results of the modelling indicate that it will have a beneficial effect on traffic. This is due to the operation of the crossroads and the A3 southbound off-slip as a single junction."

Other features will include new crossing points that will prevent pedestrians overriding the sequencing of traffic lights and lights that will detect late buses and let them through.

The schedule of work is as follows:

Where: Left turning and straight on lanes of the A25 Parkway heading west.

When: July 30 - September 13

Diversion: When left-turning lane into Stoke Road is closed, drivers will need to turn right, do a u-turn at the roundabout and come back across the crossroads onto Stoke Road.

Where: Eastbound approaches of the A25 Ladymead between Woodbridge Crossroads and Stoke Crossroads.

When: July 30 - September 6

Diversion: A322 Woodbridge Road, turn left onto York Road, then left again onto A3100 London Road and then on A25 Parkway.

Where: A320 Woking Road, all Woking-bound lanes and two Guildford-bound lanes.

When: September 17 - October 3

Diversion: None provided

Where: Northbound lanes of Stoke Road approaching the crossroads.

When: October 4 - November 9

Diversion: When no left turn onto Ladymead, drivers will need to proceed straight on, perform a U-turn at the roundabout and then turn right onto Ladymead.

Where: Two southbound lanes and the left-turn lane of A320 Woking Road.

When: September 26 - November 2
