SANTA ANA, Calif. -- Advanstar Communications Inc., a leading provider of print, event and online media for the powersports, off-road and automotive aftermarket industries, announced today that veteran industry journalist Guido Ebert has joined Dealernews magazine ( as Senior Editor.

Dealernews is the nation's largest powersports business-to-business magazine. Ebert assumes his new post December 26, 2006, reporting to Associate Publisher/Editorial Director Mary Slepicka.

"We are absolutely delighted to be able to secure a writer and editor of Guido's caliber," said Slepicka. "The editorial staff looks forward to working with him as we continue building our news, analysis, business and product coverage to a level that is unparalleled in the powersports industry."

Ebert will be in charge of the magazine's News sections, and also will direct the magazine's coverage of the off-road market, which includes ATVs, off-road bikes, dirtbikes and karts. He will be based in the Midwest, working from an office near Minneapolis, Minn.

"Basing an editor in the Central time zone enables Dealernews to become more editorially accessible to the Midwest and Eastern areas of the country," said Slepicka, who manages the magazine's "home team" in Southern California. "Plus, it enables us to deploy a reporter more quickly in the Midwest and Eastern U.S., should the news opportunity present itself."

Before joining Dealernews, Ebert was Associate and then Managing Editor of Ehlert's PowerSports Business. He began his career in journalism as a newspaper reporter. He is fluent in English and German, and is an avid motorcycle, ATV and PWC enthusiast.

"I'm stoked about the opportunity to join this talented team of industry professionals," Ebert said. "I've spent more than 20 years riding powersports vehicles and nearly six years supplying news and analysis about the companies involved in this dynamic industry. It's important to me to be a part of an organization that doesn't just report on the industry, but takes part in it. I think I found a good fit at Dealernews."
