Guide to best boys of big screen.

HELP is at hand for film fans baffled by bizarre job titles in the closing credits of movies.

Cinema bosses say audiences are perplexed by titles such as Best Boy, Dolly Grip and Boom Man.

The Odeon chain has now come up with a guide to some of the strangest-sounding credits.

Here are some of the more bizarre titles:

Gaffer - supervises the lighting crew.

Best Boy - right-hand man to the gaffer.

Boom man - handles microphones placed at the end of booms, or poles.

Foley artist - creates sounds that cannot be recorded during a shoot, for example, thunder.

Key Grip - in charge of staff who assist camera crews with equipment.

Dolly grip - looks after dollies, the moveable platforms that cameras are placed on.

Richard Storton, of Odeon, said: "For years we've been asked questions about bizarre credits.

"It's time that these people were recognised. After all, for every Tom Cruise, there's a dolly grip."

The guides are available from Odeon cinema foyers.
