Guide to GSA schedules.
A key method for getting government contracts is through the General Services Administration multiple-award schedules program.Over 15,000 contracts are currently in place nationwide, with contractors providing a wide variety of products and services. Typically, these contracts are for five-year terms, with simplified procedures for renewing them for three more five-year terms, a total of twenty years.
Any manufacturer or service provider can make an offer under one of these categories, at any time--the contracting process is open at all times, so you don't have to deal with a specific bid due date.
To find out the details for bidding on any of these opportunities, go to www.fedbizopps.gov and enter the specified solicitation number (the second entry of each of the listings below) in the QuickSearch box on the home page or the Keywords/SOL # box on the Opportunities page.
Every GSA solicitation is quite lengthy (100 pages or more). Be sure to download all the sections and instructions, so that you can gain a full understanding of what the government is interested in buying in the applicable category, what information GSA needs from you, what the contracting officer is willing to accept in terms of favorable pricing, what commitments you are making as a responsible contractor, and what the auditors will be evaluating in terms of contract administration.
