Groups invited to bid.

COMMUNITY groups are being offered advice on how to get a slice of a lottery cash windfall. Walsall Council funding officers will help groups in the borough put together bids for The Big Lottery Fund scheme.

The Fund has five awards of up to pounds 80,000 available in the West Midlands region to improve green spaces, buildings and services in the People's Millions initiative, where TV viewers vote for the projects they want to receive funding.

Lindens Primary School, in Streetly, won last year's TV vote in the Central News West region to scoop pounds 50,000 to develop its 'Live a Dream, Touch the Elements' project.

This will turn an existing playground into a new play area, including a sensory garden, activity and role play areas The closing date for applications to the Big Lottery Fund is noon on May 17.

People should contact funding officer Mike Gaffney on 01922 653151 or e-mail him on gaffneym@walsall.gov.uk.
