A group of people in Guayaquil, Ecuador, have tried to get a donkey named Senor Burro (Mr Donkey) on the ballot for the upcoming Presidential elections.

Despite having a cheering crowd of supporters and plenty of media attention, the animal was snubbed when he arrived at the Guayaquil electoral office.

Supporters led Mr Donkey through the streets to the Provincial Electoral Council building, where they hoped to get him registered to run for a seat on the National Assembly.

Despite the snub, Mr. Donkey's campaign has attracted a lot of interest on Twitter.

The animal's Twitter account @donburroreal has already gained about 1,000 followers.
