Groove Networks And Veridian Announce Alliance To Develop Collaboration Solutions For The Defense & Intelligence Communities.

Business/Technology Editors

ARLINGTON, Va. & BEVERLY, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 1, 2002

Companies to focus on solutions for countering asymmetric threats

Veridian, a leading provider of advanced technology and services to the U.S. defense and intelligence communities, and Groove Networks(TM), the leading provider of decentralized software for secure business collaboration, today announced an alliance focused on providing secure collaboration and decision-making tools and services to government clients.

The companies are integrating Veridian's expertise in developing advanced analysis and decision-making solutions for the defense and intelligence communities with Groove Networks' decentralized collaboration platform for secure cross-agency communication and collaboration.

"This alliance is focused on providing our defense and intelligence communities with solutions for identifying asymmetric threats before attacks occur," said Bob Pattishall, president of Veridian's Systems Division. "Our core capabilities in developing software and associated technologies for knowledge creation, discovery and decision support, combined with our long-time understanding of how the defense and intelligence communities operate, complement Groove Networks' ability to support dynamic, secure and decentralized collaboration."

"Our defense and intelligence communities operate in a more decentralized manner than ever before, and are increasingly focused on cross-agency coordination and data fusion," said Kelly Collins, Groove Networks' vice president of government systems. "This requires an ability to support dynamic tasking of cross-agency teams whose composition is diverse, and goal-, time-to-action, and time-to-result focused. This alliance with Veridian will allow us to provide effective solutions for the government agencies that are focused on identifying and countering unconventional, but potentially devastating threats to our national security."

Critical Intent Model (CIM)

Initially, Veridian is delivering its Critical Intent Model (CIM) in Groove software for collaborative analysis of security threats by defense and intelligence community members. "We are building agents that automatically search for and retrieve past decision models and then present them to decision makers in a useable fashion," says Mark Lazaroff, director of Veridian's Intelligence Innovation Group.

The use of Veridian's analysis and decision-support tools combined with Groove(R) software was first pioneered as part of the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency's GENOA program. Project GENOA is focused on developing new collaborative reasoning, structured argumentation and organizational memory for allowing defense and intelligence communities to improve threat understanding and decision-making.

As part of the alliance, Veridian has become a Groove Networks Enterprise Solution Partner, and has purchased 10,000 Groove software licenses. Veridian also is joining the Groove Networks Board of Customer Advisors to provide product feedback as well as insights into the collaboration and project-management needs of the defense and intelligence communities.
