Greyhounds: Horses and greyhounds join forces at Dundalk.

THERE was a great air of optimism around Dundalk this week following the news that the proposed merger between the horse and greyhound courses had been given the go-ahead.

The racecourse shareholders met on Monday night and, following a lengthy meeting, they voted by a 77 per cent majority in favour of joining forces with the greyhound folk.

Dundalk track is already up for sale and the plan is to develop a new greyhound circuit inside the racecourse and to use the same facilities for both sports. It is hoped that the multi-million pound development can get under way in 1999.
