Greg gives Olympic masterclass at Hove.

DROOPYS GREG (5-4f) looked back to his very best with a superb success in heat four of the Coral Greyhound Olympic over 515m at Hove, writes Jonathan Kay.

Trained by Nick Savva for Gary Newbon, he was by no means brilliantly away, but paced up well to lead at the first bend and then powered away from two rivals who had done well in the early stages of the Derby - Diesel Malc and Jazz Apollo - to win by four and a half lengths and one and a half in a best-of-night 29.74sec (-20).

Next best was the 29.93sec recorded by Spinkys Nod in heat three as John Gammon's bitch led from the first bend to beat Derby fourth Cloheena Cash by just under two lengths. There were other 'home' successes for Seamus Cahill's Guinness Hawk (30.06sec) and Claude Gardiner's Stemart Knut (30.09sec), although his victory looked fortunate as Ministry Magic appeared in control when tearing a gracilis muscle off the second bend.

Other winners were Tony Taylor's Brinkleys Jedi (30.08sec) and Dean Childs's Pennys Viking (30.17sec).

Raving Black and Droopys Lars dead-heated for third behind Brinkleys Jedi with Raving Black going through after the drawing of lots.

Draw for Thursday's semis First 1Not Now Bertie, 2 Stemart Knut, 3 Westmead Logan (m), 4 Farloe Skywalker (w), 5 Burwood Freddie (w), 6 Cloheena Cash (w).

Second 1 Jazz Apollo, 2 Diesel Malc, 3 Romeo Metro, 4 Slick Saxon, 5 Brinkleys Jedi, 6 Droopys Greg (w). Third 1 Raving Black, 2 Spinkys Nod, 3 Guinness Hawk (m), 4 Gilideaway Rumble (w), 5 Pennys Viking (w), 6 Romeo Amerigo (w).
