Green Day's American Idiot Clyde Auditorium, Glasgow October 29; reviews live.

GREEN Day's American Idiot is an all-round enjoyable performance. For fans of Green Day, or just musicals, it's an enthusiastic, fun-filled adventure.

Starting with a bang, it never let up the pace as the young cast tore into songwriter Billie Joe Armstrong's songs including 21 Guns, Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Holiday.

Some critics have claimed it doesn't have a plot but perhaps there is a reason. Mamma Mia!, We Will Rock You and Our House are all nostalgic but this music is for young people and the staging, which is quick, is like our lives of quick information.

And while it doesn't have a fleshed-out plot there is a beginning, middle and ending, which tells us home is where the heart is.

Three young men decide to leave their small town for the city. One has to stay behind because his girlfriend is pregnant. The other two arrive in the city but the streets aren't paved with gold, just misery. One joins the army only to have his leg blown off and the other becomes a drug addict.

There are painful questions about what place young people have in society. The set is incredible, full of televisions belching information and the breathless choreography, and fast changes from scene to scene make you feel we are all living too fast.

Fans of Green Day will love this and others will realise how good a songwriter Billie Joe Armstrong is. The encore with all the cast playing guitars and singing Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) gave me goosebumps.

Glasgow run finishes tomorrow.
