Great news, for now.

THERE will be delight at the decision of Northumberland County Council to scrap plans to shut 12 libraries in the county - accompanied by a degree of scepticism about how long the stay of execution may last.

Sadly, the statement confirming the decision to halt the closures for now stopped short of acknowledging the lunacy of making cuts which will save so little money whilst withdrawing a service that many people rely upon.

This delay may buy time to enable campaigners to reinforce this message - and have the plan scrapped for good.
