Great line-up for comedy festival; REVIEW.

Comedy Hullabaloo RSC COURTYARD THEATRE AND SWAN GARDENS, STRATFORDUPON-AVON A FOUR-DAY comedy festival will be launched in Stratfordupon-Avon next month as part of the town's arts festival.

Among the 22 comedians taking part in Comedy Hullabaloo is Father Ted actor/ comedian Ardal O'Hanlon, Al Murray The Pub Landlord, Milton Jones, Richard Herring, Roisin Conaty and Shappi Khorsandi.

More than 5,000 people attended last year's event, which is run in partnership with Stratford-upon-Avon Arts Festival and the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Organisers Underbelly has been running a comedy festival in London's Southbank for six years and has more than 140 comedy, stand-up and cabaret shows at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Director Ed Bartlam said: "This is the second year of the festival. We loved it last year. We originally wanted to create a small, intimate comedy festival somewhere quintessentially English and picturesque - Stratford-upon-Avon was the perfect location with its history of performance arts and distance to the metropolitan centres of Birmingham and Coventry.

"This year we are coming back with 15 shows. Most of the gigs are taking place in the RSC's Courtyard Theatre and the Swan Gardens on the banks of the river in the Idolize Spiegeltent - an early 20th century Belgian domed tent. There are only 22 in the world they are all circular, ornately decorated and date back to the early 1900s. This one came from Holland from a family who own eight and it seats 250 people. It's really intimate and very beautiful.

"We have a mixed bill and a few solo shows including Tommy Tiernan, Jason Manford and Al Murray, who is hosting a lunchtime solo show in the Spiegeltent.

"We have a great line-up including Milton Jones, Ardal Hanlon, Tim Vine and Hal Cruttenden plus lots of newer faces. The idea is people will want to see some people they have heard mixed with some up-and-coming new faces."

The Comedy Hullabaloo runs from May 22 to 25.
