Great Plains Software Announces A Strategic Acquisition to Deliver An Enterprise-Wide Solution.

FARGO, N.D.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 20, 1998--

The Midmarket Leader Expands Windows NT/SQL Server Business Solutions to Include Manufacturing and Human Resources

Great Plains Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: GPSI), today announced it has expanded its industry-leading Microsoft BackOffice financial management solutions to include a suite of manufacturing applications and a human resource management system. Great Plains Software is acquiring these products through an acquisition of certain assets of ICONtrol, Inc., a subsidiary of a holding company and an independent software provider of manufacturing and human resource solutions. The price of the transaction was approximately $7.5 million in cash.

As a Great Plains Software Independent Software Vendor (ISV) since 1993, ICONtrol has more than 500 customers in the midmarket and has an established presence among the Great Plains Software Partner channel. The ICONtrol manufacturing and human resource products have been fully integrated with Great Plains' Windows NT client/server products and now will become components of the Great Plains Dynamics product family.

"Many midmarket customers are seeking an enterprise-wide solution from a single source. Delivering a fully-integrated enterprise solution with the same architecture, platform and user interface is the right strategy for Great Plains Software and our Partner channel," said Doug Burgum, Great Plains' chairman and CEO. "In addition to gaining important components for Great Plains' enterprise-wide solution, the ICONtrol acquisition also gives us a dedicated team of 54 employees with solid manufacturing and human resources expertise."

In addition, Great Plains Software's manufacturing suite works in concert with Great Plains' suite of field service applications, ServiceAdvantage, to provide a complete solution for manufacturing companies who also provide field service to their customers.

Great Plains' Solution for Human Resources

Great Plains Software's human resource management system (HRMS) is fully integrated with the Dynamics and Dynamics C/S+ Payroll applications and shares the same architecture and user interface. Great Plains' HRMS solution is designed to manage the human assets of midmarket companies across all industries. In addition, Great Plains Software's HRMS solution is fully integrated with the Great Plains manufacturing suite to manage the human asset contribution to the manufacturing process.
