Race eight in the TLI North East 2006 Pursuit Series started on Saltwick Hill and took in the Tranwell circuit.

Due to bad weather only 23 riders signed on and the race was reduced by one lap to three.

This gave the early starters an incentive to ride hard ( and they did just that.

The scratch group was organised early and was working well until Malcolm Lewis (VC Azzurri) and Ian Pledger (VC Azzuri) came down on a greasy corner.

It was not until the final turn to Saltwick Hill the early starters came into sight ( but the scratch group could not make the final effort to close the gap.

As the leaders started to climb it was Dr David Crawford (VC Azzurri) who took the front for the final drive to the line.

By then the scratch group was only 25 metres down and John Davidson took the gamble to go across and he just made it through the bunch with Colin Ash (NB Fox) and Peter Hawkins (Usher) on his wheel.

Deiter Booth (Breeze Cycles) took over the sprint to take his first win with Barry Fordham (Cestria) and Neil Suitor (unatt) grabbing second and third.

RESULTS: 1 Deiter Booth (Breeze Cycles) 23pts, 2 Barry Fordham (Cestria) 22 pts, 3 Neil Suitor (unatt) 21 pts, 4 Keith Sibbald (Cramlington) 20pts, 5 Mark Wilson (Cestria) 19pts, 6 Dave Coltman (Tandem RC) 18pts, 7 John Davidson (unatt) 17pts, 8 Colin Ash (NB Fox) 16pts.
