Grant helps create guide.

Every GP and optician on Tyneside will be given a unique new CD guide on a debilitating muscle disorder in a bid to help more patients.

Thanks to a pounds 10,000 Lottery grant the Newcastle branch of the Myasthenia Gravis Association has been able to put together an interactive CD containing vital information to help more than 1,180 medics in the region.

The rare auto-immune disease, which causes severe muscle weakness, is hard to diagnose and is often missed by health professionals.

There is no known cure and it can prove fatal but people on Tyneside with the illness believe early diagnosis is crucial.

The group was given the cash by the Awards for All Lottery scheme, which awards smaller sums to grass roots community groups.
