Granite For California Veterans Memorial Moving From Warehouse To Capitol Park; Stone Setting To Begin Monday.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 13, 1998--Sandblasters and artists have completed the etching of the images and sculpting of the fissure on the granite for the California Veterans Memorial (CVM), according to an announcement issued today by Acting State Veterans Affairs Secretary Lee Bennett.

The granite sections are scheduled to be moved from a warehouse to the memorial site here Thursday or Friday. Setting of the stone is to begin Monday. That process should take two to three weeks.

Eight of 12 granite benches have been installed and all of the bench-backs have been engraved. Several of the eight engraved flagpole collars have been set. All of the engraved pavers have been delivered to the memorial site and following the completion of bench and collar setting, the pavers will be installed.

"I am not certain if that process will take place simultaneously with, before or after the setting of the obelisk veneer," said Project Director Michael Kilbane.

Touch Media of Orange County, a veteran-owned company, will develop the computer graphics for the kiosk. A California Department of Veterans Affairs (CDVA) and Department of Water Resources production group will create videos for the kiosk regarding the history of the CVM and benefits administered by CDVA.
