Grandson is seeing a much older woman; Just Joan.

Byline: joan burnie

Q MY 17 year old grandson told me he had a new girlfriend. He asked me not to tell his mum, my ex daughter-in-law, about it.

The problem is the woman's 20-odd years older than him.

My grandson and his mum don't get on as he doesn't like his step dad. He's always confided in me since his daddy died when he was only 10.

His mum has never been happy about him and me being close.

I think this woman is much too old for him and that was what I told him. But my grandson says he loves her and she makes him happy.

The question is, should I tell his mum about all this or not?

A VERY difficult. The woman is too old for him. The boy's just over the age of consent after all and boys no less than girls need to be protected from predatory adults.

But of course if you say too much you may drive him even further into his sugar mummy's arms. You don't want him to stop confiding in you either.

So for now you don't tell your former daughter-in-law but insist your grandson introduces you to the woman. Then you'll get a better impression of her as well as the relationship and she'll know you've got your beady eye on her.
