IF you see someone driving a Maserati GranCabrio, give them a nod of approval. Because this is an absolutely magnificent motor.
A full four-seat convertible with the horniest engine note this side of a Ferrari Enzo, it's one of the best Masers ever.
Good for 175 and 60 in five seconds, it's startlingly fun to drive. Push the Sport button, dump the throttle and the tyres squeal, the 4.7-litre V8 howls like a banshee and every eye is instantly yours.
This car is anti-socially loud. Not as fast as a Merc SLS or Jag XK-R, the GranCab just feels much more special, Italian and charismatic.
In fact it's so good it rivals a Bentley GTC. And that's the motoring equivalent of a peerage.
The bottom line is we don't buy cars for straight-line performance or cutting-edge handling, we buy them to increase our personal to increase our pe p rsonal magnetism by 150%, and this Maserati ticks all the boxes and then some.
The steering has a pleasing weightiness, the ride is amazingly supple, yet for such a large, roofless structure the body control is surprisingly firm.
There are no creaks, rattles or shakes, even over really rutted roads. But this isn't just another anaesthetised, soulless supercar - it's a deeply involving and communicative road rocket. Best of all, after three years you'll still be looking at only 50% depreciation, which for a Maserati is unprecedented.
For sheer automotive joy, it's outrageous value for money. PS97k may sound a lot, but within the first day of ownership you'll feel it was worth every penny.
It may be flawed in lots of tiny ways but, with the roof down and a tontwenty on the dial heading for Monaco, you won't give a stuff. Maserati has got its mojo back. Like it? I totally adore this car.
