Graeter's to Colorado.

Graeter's Ice Cream, the venerable Cincinnati-based premium ice cream company, will become available in Colorado's King Sooper's stores in Boulder, Denver and Colorado Springs for $4.99 a pint. The expansion is the result of a tie forged with another iconic Cincinnati brand, that of Kroger supermarket chain. King Sooper's stores ate part of Kroger's overall operation.

According to the Rocky Mountain News the initiative is a pilot project for the Graeter's brand. If it is successful, according to Richard A. Graeter, executive vice president of the 108-year-old family-owned business, the company will require an expanded production line.

Graeter's has also announced a further expansion in its home state of Ohio. The brand will be available in northern Ohio for the first time with a rollout through the Acme Fresh Market chain of grocery stores. Acme, headquartered in Akron, operates 16 stores in Northeastern Ohio.

Graeter's has also redesigned its pint containers with a flavor-specific color coding. Colorful bands on the lids and bottoms of the pints will correspond to a specific flavor with the company's traditional content-specific graphics moved from the lids to the pint body below the Graeter's logo. For example, Black Raspberry Chip featuring purple bands along with the black raspberry and chocolate chunk graphic previously used for the flavor. Richard Graeter noted, "We are always looking for ways to better serve our customers. The new color-coded pints will make finding a favorite flavor much easier."

The new containers will be initially used for Chocolate, Vanilla Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Chocolate Chip. The Black Raspberry Chip and Butter Pecan flavors will soon follow and eventually the majority of the brand's more than 30 flavors. Graeter's also notes that it has changed the name of its Double Chocolate Chip to Chocolate Chocolate Chip and Regular Chocolate Chip is now Vanilla Chocolate Chip. Graeter's new containers will be available in all its company retail stores and throughout the Kroger's supermarket chain. Further expansion will follow as supplies become available.

The company has also announced that in September it will begin distribution of its Bittersweet Chocolate Sauce through the bigg's supermarkets in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. The company began distribution of its ice creams in bigg's stores this past June.
