Graduates of India's NITs form association.

TRIBUNE NEWS NETWORK DOHA GRADUATES of India's premier engineering institutions, the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) have established an alumni association in Qatar called the Pan NIT Alumni.

The association recently held its first get-to-gather where 30 of them shared details of their backgrounds and journey to Qatar.

The National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are a group of higher education engineering institutions founded to promote regional diversity and multi-cultural understanding across India. Comprising 30 autonomous institutes, the NITs are located in each major state/territory of India. On their inception decades ago, they were referred as Regional Engineering Colleges (RECs).

It is estimated that approximately 2000 of their graduates work in the Middle East out of who 200 are in Qatar. A similar Pan NIT Alumni exists in the UAE with over 800 members. The Pan NIT Qatar Alumni aims to reach all the graduates working in the country to expand its member base to 150 by 2012 and to use the network for the benefits of its members, students and the society at large.
