Goytre's great eight sink Caerau Ely; WELSH CUP.

GOYTRE United swept to the most convincing victory in the second round of the Welsh Cup yesterday when they demolished Caerau Ely 8-1. An impressive hat-trick by Ian Cleary helped Merthyr Saints to a 4-3 away victory over Caerleon for whom Chris Pilkington bagged a brace.

There was an exciting finish at Haverfordwest as the home team went down 2-1 to Barry Town after extra time. The West Walians grabbed an early advantage through Richard Lewis but a late, late show from Atif Basahir took the tie into extra time and Barry's Josh Bell netted the winner.

Extra time was also needed at the Brewery Field where Bridgend Town left it late to defeat Welsh League Second Division side Tata Steel 5-3. Bryntirion Athletic also went through after a 5-2 home victory over Goytre. Anthony Rawlings and Ian Turner each claimed a brace.

League leaders Cambrian & Clydach emerged 2-0 winners over Llandrindod Wells.

In the North, Cefn Druids scored eight goals without reply at home to Coedpoeth United.

Cefn were also in goal crazy form as they slammed seven at Montgomery Town who replied with three of their own.

A hat-trick by Tim Beglin assisted by a brace from Tony Burke helped Buckley Town to an impressive 5-2 success over Holyhead Hotspur.

The tie at Denbigh was fiercely contested and needed extra time as they and Flint were 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Flint's Phil Lloyd got the winner deep in extra time.

Llandudno Town progressed as a result of a 3-1 triumph at Guilsfield.

Rhyl won the battle of the giants getting home 3-2 at Porthmadog.
