Govt to introduce legislative proposal on arbitration matters after feedback from stakeholders.
ISLAMABAD -- Ministry of Law and Justice was working on a legislation to address the complications in arbitration and conciliation matters and to introduce government bill in the parliament about it.
It was stated by Minister for Law and Justice Zahid Hamid during 41st meeting of the Standing Committee on Law and Justice held under the Chairmanship of MNA Chaudhry Mahmood Bashir Virk.
The committee considered the private member's bill - the Arbitration and Conciliation Bill, 2015 - moved by MNA Ms. Surriya Asghar and was told that the ministry had already done a detailed work for provision of separate Bill on Arbitration and Conciliation.
He said law ministry had invited suggestions at its website from the public at large including Bar Councils and Legal Practitioners for up-gradation of Arbitration Act, 1940.
As the up-gradation of the said Law was under way, the minister said there was no need to consider and approve this bill. The committee decided to defer the bill till next meeting due to absence of the mover. However, the Committee decided to defer the bill due to absence of mover.
The Committee unanimously confirmed the minutes of its previous meeting held on May 2, 2017, and deferred the Constitution (Twenty-ninth Amendment) Bill, 2017, after detailed deliberations due to divergent views of the members.
The Senate body also deferred the Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2017, (Amendment in Article 37) moved by MNA Ms. Naeema Kishwer Khan in detail. It was agreed by the committee to defer this piece of legislation till the opinion from the Minorities/Non-Muslims was obtained about the said amendment.
It rejected the Legal Practitioners and Bar Council (Amendment) Bill, 2017 moved by MNA Ms. Saman Sultana Jafri. The committee decided that the Bill may not be passed by the Assembly.
